The primary goal of the present study is to examine the impact of the changing macroecological characteristics of cities on school performance, and to draw from the research base and from innovative developments on what can be done to make a significant difference in reducing the achievement gap among urban students from minority backgrounds. Greater numbers of children from increasingly diverse sociocultural and economic backgrounds have been included in our nation's schools, Teaching Agencies Birmingham and the kinds of educational programs offered in the classroom have been greatly diversified. These accomplishments, while significant, have fallen short of the educational vision of a universal school system that provides all children with equal access to schooling success. To date, efforts during the past three decades to desegregate schools have produced very little change to enhance social and academic integration. Furthermore, the focus on the "setting" of schooling has become a barrier to the nation's quest to improve schooling for the very students who are the intended beneficiaries of school desegregation. In particular, the difficulties of life in the inner city often overshadow the urban community's rich resources for children and families. By finding ways to magnify the positives in urban life, we can improve the capacity for education in the urban community and enhance the schooling success of those children and youth from economically disadvantaged backgrounds who live in some of the most adverse inner-city environments. There is increasing evidence that the achievement gap in this nation's urban schools may be better understood in terms of the decentralization of cities, the resulting changes in the social ecology of neighborhoods, and the structure of the urban labor market. The contention is that the changing makeup of the cities accounts for much of the failure of urban schools. The United States leads the industrialized world in numbers of children living in poverty. In addition, residential segregation by race and social class has also worsened despite efforts to desegregate the nation's cities following the civil rights legislation of the 1960s. African-American and other minority students tend to be in schools where overall achievement is low. And even in schools that have achieved racial integration, students from language and ethnic minority backgrounds are often resegregated by a variety of pullout remedial or compensatory education programs. These programs tend to underestimate what students can do, neglect fundamental content, provide inferior instruction, delay the introduction of more challenging work, and fail to provide students with a motivating context for learning. These circumstances place children at risk of educational failure and place schools at the center of interconnected social problems. Countering these trends and reducing the achievement gap requires an inclusive approach to responding to student diversity and the provision of powerful instruction that can increase the capacity for achieving the educational success of all students. Much is known from research and the practical application of innovative practices in overcoming adversities and strengthening the resources and protective mechanisms that foster the healthy development and educational resilience of children and youth at risk of educational failure. If we can find the means of viewing and understanding the "positives" in the lives of urban children and youth, we can rekindle the hope for progress by addressing the deep-rooted problem of the achievement gap. It is difficult if not impossible to achieve significant school improvement without forging working connections with the multiple forces that influence the development of children or the social ecology of neighborhoods. Recent discussion among educators has centered on the search for resilience-promoting strategies or protective mechanisms that help reduce the burden of adversity and advance opportunities for learning. Two major guidelines, emerging from the past three decades of research and innovative development efforts, have received increasing recognition for potentially reducing the risk factors associated with the urban life and the achievement gap in urban schools: (a) forging greater school connections with families and the community; and (b) reducing educational segregation within schools and implementing responsive and powerful instructional practices to ensure learning success of every student. There is growing public demand for a coordinated and inclusive approach to service delivery, and increasing recognition that the learning problems of children and families cannot be tackled by schools alone. Broader social policies must be established to initiate interagency, collaborative programs that link schools and other service agencies. To this end, a variety of innovative strategies and programs that are effective in forging coordinated, comprehensive education and related human services delivery are being created across the country. Although they vary in their approaches and in the specifics of their program designs, the problems facing children and families stem from a variety of cultural, economic, political, and health problems and that their solutions are complex and require pooled resource from public and private sector agencies. Clearly, we must find ways to reform current practices to ensure that educational experience in elementary and secondary schools are appropriate, meaningful, and the main source for positive development and education. The central improvement Teaching Agencies Birmingham question is not whether to provide an inclusive system of education and related services delivery, but how to implement such a system in ways that are feasible and effective in ensuring the schooling success of all children, including and especially those with special needs. There is a substantial knowledge base that should be utilized in attempting to improve the current disjointed and unresponsive approach to serving children and youth with special needs who are not adequately served under the current system. Public school should be inclusive and integrated, and separation by race, gender, language background, and/or ability should be minimized.

My hero, Cole Rogers, just shy of five foot seven inches, could snap a person's neck in an instant. On a softer note, he was my dad. His sure smile, always accompanied with a nod, won me over a thousand times. A hundred years ago he'd have been a jockey in love with thoroughbreds and places like 'Saratoga' or 'Oak Lawn.' But he arose from the crude oil pit of the sixties 西瓜卡通 on his Harley, a 'ghost rider' whose flames lit up my sky. In love with metal parts, hoses, gasoline tanks, oiled tracks and chains, he embodied the spirit of Paradise Speedway. I remember as a kid watching my dad, at one hundred forty pounds, throttle 'Rock' Rogers, his three hundred pound cousin, at our 1968 family reunion at Paradise Lake. I remembered his superhuman virtues, skinny tight muscled arms, and short legs pumping him to touchdown. At Paradise Speedway he shattered the Memorial Day lap times repeatedly, even on his last day in 1974. I grew to know Cole through others' lenses, eight-millimeter film clippings of him competing in heats, skiing in a choppy lake, chopping dirt BLM trails up climbing hills on his Harley. Long ago, when he called me his 'Little Trevor,' or 'LT,' I stood in the length of his shadow for protection. Would you sell your soul to return to your childhood? I did. Stepping on the shoulders of giants, I returned to August 1969, leaving my pregnant Susan to worry for me in October 2010. I had a life/death request to make of someone there; I didn't know who, whether my dad Cole, mother Sylvia, or myself. Susan introduced me to the time gate. Her degrees in biology, physics and psychology gained her access. I traveled to the night before my eighth birthday, when I got Puddles. I'd just botched up my trip to 1961. I half expected to see that eight fingered cop again, waiting for vengeance. But to catch me in that meadow, he'd have to of climbed that mountain 8 x 365 days; fatiguing. I crawled through brush to a landing, and then let the steep trail whisk me two miles to a log truck road near Paradise, Oregon. I ate the dusty gravel. Susan had pushed me through the gate with just a few heart pills, a syringe, and a little black box with a knob on it. Susan had mentioned something about a sub-station as she handed it to me, rushing me through the time gate, so I knew it was a radio. She'd said, "Use this as a last resort, Trevor. If you can't get to the gate..." and as her voice faded all I could make out is if I couldn't make it to the gate I was to activate the sub-station. I played with it, couldn't get it to work. It didn't even light up or buzz static. I didn't mess with it long. I'd had no rest since the 1961 debacle. Susan would be fearfully scanning the August 1969 obituaries. If she checked Paradise Hospital's records, she'd see a Forest Service worker returning to Paradise from fire-watch had brought me into the emergency room at 4:17 pm and registered me under the name on my forged ID, 'Leo Benson.' I suppose the records might also show a nurse who knew Leo Benson's sister Sylvia Rogers, contacted her with the news her brother was at Paradise Hospital, and Sylvia Rogers came at once. I'd chosen 'Leo Benson' as my cover name. Leo was my uncle, so I knew enough about his life I could answer the difficult questions. Besides, some said I could be his twin. The sight of my parents shocked me, especially since the last time I'd seen them they were dead. My dad, Cole had these piercing raven eyes that made me feel guilty. If he knew why I'd come to 1969, he'd have snapped my neck. My parents, Cole and Sylvia Rogers, believed I was really my uncle Leo. They invited me to stay and offered me a room. I chose the living room sofa, and slept into the 西瓜卡通 next day, sounds of clanging pots and pans and Sylvia's voice, and the smell of white cake. It was my birthday in 1969! My eight year old self, little Trevor ran around me, arms spread as if he were a plane. And dad, Cole, bought me Puddles! I watched little Trevor slap and kiss that tiny dog and tease it with snacks saying, "Roll over, Puddles. Roll over." He shielded that tiny dog from getting squashed by my size elevens. I was 'Uncle Leo on the couch,' sick, weak. Even now the house was old, though a brighter yellow, red shutters. The willow tree's branches wiggled in the wind next to the white Mercury in the gravel drive. And the field, tall grass if you needed to hide. The new swing that rocked and creaked in the yard would one day be old, remembered, abandoned.

It's down to the wire, and you find yourself pulling out your hair because the florist is slow at returning your calls, the tailor is taking too long to alter your gown, and you can't decide which dish to serve at the reception. It's enough to make anyone go crazy, but surviving Wedding Tips stress is possible. Even if you have a wedding planner, you're still facing hurdles of your own when it comes to surviving the wedding stress, trying to make sure that everything flows smoothly on the big day. But what do you do when unexpected issues arise? Have you considered your plan of action and which stress-free wedding tips you'll rely on if something goes wrong? In these instances, a hands-on approach to the problems you'll encounter will solve everything right then and there. So, with all the potential problems that can happen before and during your wedding day, how do you handle, manage, and overcome wedding planning stress? Here are a few of the best stress-free wedding tips that brides swear by to get them through the wedding planning stages. Stay in Control with These Stress-Free Wedding Tips! 1. Surviving wedding stress involves giving yourself enough time to plan. Your wedding is what you make of it. If you allot no more than six or seven months for an extravagant affair, chances are it may look like it was rushed. With extra time, you can plan, make changes, hire the right vendors the first time around, and choose the best venues that match your budget (because you can shop around). And if you're in a rush to get married, opt for a simpler ceremony and reception - one that's affordable but doesn't cause you stress in the long run. 2. Remember that a holiday wedding, while beautiful, is more stressful. Not only do you have a wedding to plan, but you have to worry about the added stress from the holidays. At Thanksgiving, for instance, you'll have guests coming in from out of town, and you'll worry about a big dinner, while at Christmas, you're focused on buying gifts and decorating--all at the same time. This is not to say that surviving the wedding stress (and holiday stress) can't be done; holiday winter weddings are some of the most elegant, joyous events. But you need to keep in mind that you will have added stress to deal with. Make sure you have a dependable wedding planner who can offer valuable stress-free wedding tips as well as many helpful friends who have the time to help you plan your big day. 3. Hire the right wedding planner - and get knowledgeable stress-free wedding tips. This is a given when it comes to surviving wedding stress. Of course, some brides do not hire a wedding planner, and that's fine. Planners simply provide a sort of stress buffer for you and your family so that you can concentrate on other elements of the wedding. You'll have the opportunity beforehand to interview wedding planners in your area to see if they can accurately align with your wishes and carry them out as you see fit. Plus, you can evaluate his or her personality to see if it's someone you can work with on a regular basis. 4. Surviving wedding stress when one of your vendors goes MIA. Yikes! This is a tricky situation. You've planned for months that your vendor will show up at the time agreed upon. But it's the day of the wedding -- what can you do now? If at all possible, try to find a replacement; this may not be feasible since it's truly last minute. A missing vendor does not spell immediate Wedding Tips doom however. Here's your chance to save the day - if the florist doesn't show up, make a pit stop at the local grocery store and buy all the flowers you can. If the DJ cancels, enlist a friend to bring along an MP3 player with music everyone can dance to. And if the minister calls out sick, there's a possibility a notary (in some states) can marry you, or you can have an eloquent guest perform the ceremony. After all, once you have that license in hand, you're officially married regardless. 5. One of the best stress-free wedding tips for you (and your family) is to avoid being a 'bridezilla.' Stress can bring out the worst in anyone, and tackling and surviving wedding stress is the most difficult. And no one knows it better than the friends and family of the bride, who may witness a change in her demeanor over time. There's no need to subject your loved ones to your emotional outbursts. Always give yourself time to reflect and relax. You don't have to spend every waking moment making plans. Trust your friends to help you when it comes to planning the wedding and surviving the wedding stress; don't go it alone. Proper Planning Means Surviving Wedding Stress Managing and surviving wedding stress is not easy. There are so many things that might make you want to call the planning off. Just remember that one of the most helpful stress-free wedding tips out there is to make sure that you allow yourself enough time to plan and make the day right. This is, after all, your wedding day, and while everything will not go the way you planned, keep a smile on your face and appreciate the many people who made the time to celebrate with you.

Web design can be an enjoyable and fulfilling experience. It's a trade that combines technical skills with creative ability. If you feel comfortable with computer technology and you enjoy creating documents, web design can be a great way to combine the two interests. That being said, it's always overwhelming to consider learning a new skill. Before learning how to become a web designer, you should ask yourself, "Should I become a web designer?" I've been learning web design since I was ten years old, in 1994. I now do a lot of web design for myself and for some small business clients. There have been plenty of pleasures, but also plenty of frustrations. If you're considering becoming a web designer, there are some things you should keep in mind. If you have a lot of time to devote to learning HTML, CSS, JavaScript and Photoshop, it's possible to learn the basics in a couple of months. Be ready to spend some money on manuals, books, and applications. No matter how you decide to learn web design and how you decide to enter the field, some people have better potential to become web designers than others. When you're programming, even if you're using a simple language like HTML and using a helpful application like Dreamweaver, you're going to encounter some frustrations. Sometimes, when I create an HTML document, I spend a lot more time making corrections web design and problem solving than doing fun stuff. Are you prepared to spend a lot of time testing and making little changes? No matter how you approach web design, tedium can't be completely avoided. If you're easily frustrated and discouraged, web design might not be for you. Unless web design is going to be just a hobby for you, you will have clients you have to work with. Sometimes clients have a lot of specific expectations. Some clients have experience with web design themselves, but others may demand things without knowing the technical limitations involved. Before you start any project for clients, it's best to have a thorough conversation with them about what they want and what they need. That can save you a lot of time. How would you like to spend weeks developing a website, only to discover that your client wants completely different fonts, colors, graphics, site organization and content? If you're going to get into designing web pages for other people, you're going to have to be ready to make a lot of compromises and take a lot of criticism. Are you ready for that? Finally, ask yourself if you have the time and energy to promote yourself. If you want to be hired by a web design firm, in addition to learning skills and possibly obtaining certifications, you've also got to be ready to pound the pavement with your resume and portfolio. It might take you over a year to find a job. Be ready to attend a lot of job interviews, and possibly get a lot of rejections. If you're going to become a freelancer, like I am, you've really got to devote a lot of energy to self-promotion. Set up a website, preferably with your own domain. Be ready to spend some money on advertising. Spend a lot of time promoting your services with social media - Twitter, Facebook, Linked-In, and so on. Scan classified ads, particularly online classifieds. Print business cards and distribute them wherever you can. Use your connections and word-of-mouth to your advantage. Tell everyone you know that you're a web designer, and maybe someone knows someone who could be your first client. Sometimes I spend more time promoting myself than I do actually doing the work itself. If you're ready to spend a little bit of money, do a lot of tedious work, take some criticism, and do a lot of self-promotion, then web design may be the field for you. First, you've got to start the learning process. If you enjoy classroom instruction and having teachers, sign up for some web design and graphic design courses through your local community college. If you'd rather start learning on your own, buy some good books, look at the source codes of the web pages you visit, and go through some online tutorials. Even if you're going to start learning web design in a school setting, be prepared to do a lot of learning in your free time, as well.

If you're looking at commissioning a web designer to build you a website, one of the first things that you will need to know, is the monetary cost. This article will explain to you why there is such a Web Design huge variance between web designers and their quotes and will give you some advice as to how much you can expect to pay to contract a competent web designer in the UK. First of all you have to have a rough idea of what it is that you want from your website. You have to have thought of what you want to achieve with the website. What are its objectives? You will then need to have thought of a basic structure for your website. There are many website examples out there for you to have a look at; the important thing is to have an idea about what structure you want for the site - meaning a rough outline of the numbers of pages and the content (text and images) that will make up each page. Once you have your project objectives in mind and a rough idea of your websites structure you are in a position to start contacting suppliers. There are multitudes of web design companies everywhere and in our particular area of the UK - Doncaster there are lots of web design companies to choose from. The key thing to remember is that everyone wants your business. The web design marketplace is completely saturated so you as the buyer have the upper hand! As in all other industries there are people who provide excellent service, there are people who provide an average service and there are also cowboys (people who sell web design services without the necessary knowledge and experience to do so). What you have to think to yourself is this: If a person promises me the earth for £1 does that mean to say that they can deliver it? The best advice I can give is to be realistic. There are lots of really good city based web design companies throughout the UK that provide excellent services. They are always there to take your calls and you even get your own personal account manager to handle your requests and hold your hand through the entire web design process. The services of such companies are wonderful but this obviously comes at a price. City based offices, account managers and admin staff are large overheads and the prices charged by large city based web design companies reflect this. If you have a modestly sized website, which needs to be under content management system control, don't be surprised if the web design quote runs into tens of thousands of pounds from a major city based web design company. If you are looking for a top quality 100% inclusive, comprehensive service and your company can afford this kind of bill then I would suggest using a big city company every time. Then there are the smaller companies that are made up of just a few individuals. These types of companies have much lower overheads and frequently have very knowledgeable and capable staff. The service level can be much lower than that of major city based web design companies but you can get some excellent work done by such companies at a fraction of cost of the large city based companies. A much overlooked group of web designers that can produce some excellent web designs are the wide community of freelance web designers. Freelance web designers are private, self employed individuals who work from small offices (they frequently work from home). Freelancers have very low (mostly non existent) overheads. As such they can provide quality web design work Web Design for much lower costs than larger web design companies. If you are looking for good quality web design for less money then it definitely work looking at using a quality freelance web designer. The people that you really need to avoid are the web design cowboys. As stated above cowboys are people who sell web design services without the necessary knowledge and experience to do so. If you are unfortunate enough to have contracted someone like this in the past you will be aware of the low quality work that they produce and the lack of significant results that they achieve. Cowboys invariable promise you the earth for a £1. Use your common sense and if someone is quoting you £100 for something that 5 other companies are charging around £4000 for, you know that something is not quite right. Remember the old adage - buy cheap, buy twice!

While you are spoilt for choices when selecting carpet cleaning company for your home or business, it is important to understand the different types of carpet cleaning in warrington methods used by different companies as not all methods work for your carpet. Here are the types of carpet cleaning in the market: Hot Water Extraction Cleaning Commonly known as steam carpet cleaning, hot water extraction cleaning use high pressured hot water to agitate the carpet fibre and dissolve dirt in the carpet. Hot water extraction cleaning typically involves application of cleaning agent on soiled surface, agitation of carpet with brush and followed by rinsing. After cleaning agent settle in the carpet for a short duration, the carpet will be "washed" by a carpet cleaning equipment to rinse the cleaning agent thoroughly and finally left to dry in room or air conditioned temperature An average sized carpeted office of 3000 sq ft would normally take about 2 hours to clean and will take at least 4 hours to dry. Most companies would advise carpet to be cleaned in the late afternoon so that after it is done, the carpet can be left to dry over night and office operation can resume back to normal the next morning. Carpet Shampooing Shampoo carpet cleaning was popular till encapsulation technology was introduced in 1970s. While shampooing it may seem to clean heavily soiled carpet, the technology's disadvantage - leaving behind high amount of wet foam residues in the carpet that takes a long time to dry, becomes sticky when it dries because no rinsing is done after shampooing and rapid re-soiling of carpet - makes this method less popular than others. Encapsulation Foam encapsulation use synthetic detergents as a base that will crystallize into powder form when dries. Loosened dirt particles in carpet fibre will be encapsulated into powder when the applied cleaning foam dries and, finally, vacuumed or brushed when the foam dries after cleaning. The foam encapsulation cleaning technique has overtaken carpet shampooing technology as the former uses less water during cleaning which result in shorter drying time compared to the carpet shampooing. The foam encapsulation cleaning has received thumbs up by those who advocate using of environmental friendly products because there is less chemical residue left behind after cleaning compared to carpet shampooing. Although this technique has shown good cleaning results, this cleaning method has not been able to thoroughly clean heavy soiling carpet because of the technology's limitation. Bonnet Cleaning This carpet cleaning produce good surface cleaning result as the process mainly involve cleaning the top part of the carpet fibre using a heavy duty motorized machine with a spinning pad that has been immersed with cleaning solution to absorb dirt from the carpet surface. Bonneting is popular in hotels because it can give a quick fix solution to clean carpet in heavy traffic public area that require carpet to be cleaned without much moisture and can dry quickly to prevent causing inconvenience to hotel guests. Because bonneting does not clean carpet deeply, dirt beneath the carpet would emerge back to the surface within short period of time, causing carpet to get soiled again quickly. Bonneting also tends to cause accumulation of chemical residue in the carpet as pressure carpet cleaning in warrington from the heavy machine on the spinning pad push the applied chemical and remaining dirt into the carpet. Dry Carpet Cleaning Dry carpet cleaning or compound cleaning is one of the latest cleaning technology found in the market and has gained increasing popularity and approvals by leading carpet manufacturers because of its effective cleaning performance and convenience as it does not require drying time. Since it was invented in 1980s, there are many types of cleaning compound or powders that have been developed in the market. As this technology is considered relatively new compared to other conventional wet carpet cleaning methods that have been trusted and used for decades, many still doubt the effectiveness of this cleaning technology. The highlight is the application of cleaning compound or powder into the bottom part of carpet using a motorized counter rotating brush machine to open up the carpet fibre and allow the compound to settle inside, resulting in thorough deep carpet cleaning result. Cleaning compound is typically made of biodegradable material that works like micro-sponges, which can effectively absorb dissolved dirt in the carpet and can be removed thoroughly at the end of the process. Different equipment manufacturers differentiate themselves by developing their own cleaning compound or powders formula and customizing their equipment design and function.

A beauty darted with thorns, a thought that resonates with the glorious haven of beaches and thrills that make Goa. Vicious for some, joyous for others, your tour to Goa could have a flavor of its own. Back in the 60's and 70's, before it was discovered by the wandering hippies of the world, Goa was but a newly declared state imprinted by the Portuguese influence. What followed psychedellic mushrooms for sale in uk over the decades was a culture that blended a sense of carefree spirit, peace, love and music that set you in a trance. The darker side is a hush-hush affair; the clever ones know best to keep away. Eager to cash in on the surging tourist success and the cult that Goa was beginning to embody, the state was influenced by local smugglers, drug dealers and some whisper the likes of Russian mafia too. These vices cast a spell across the revelries of the club scene in Goa. In an attempt to control the increasing accounts of crimes and illegal activities at this tourist paradise, the government now imposes restrictions and bans, one of which include a no-partying ban post 10 pm. Though, personally we doubt if this restraint in particular is practiced. A friend of mine recently planned a group tour to Goa where she took a detour to a certain night club. They partied till the wee hours of night at the plush club and witnessed no sign of illegal activity other than some suspiciously happy souls loitering outside the luxurious loos of the open spaced club! A heavy stress on the word suspicious here. However, when you aren't warding off uber happy souls, you will lose yourself to the music and the elegant performances of fire dancers at such clubs. In other happenings, the commercially famed Sunburn Festival in its pilot year was interposed a couple of times by authorities too and eventually the event observed an early closure. This impacted ticket sales, the many moods of trance goers and the heavy tourism garnered by the fest in the given month, all in lieu of controlled public demeanor at such a high end event. The fest has now come to assume more success, popularity and acceptance and is graced by world famous DJs. The other popular genres of party scenes in Goa are the ones booming with Techno or House music. However, trance rules the roost and finds its heavy influences at Anjuna, the epicenter of rave parties. Here trance further branches out into another cult music genre - Psychedelic trance. Psychedelic music is worshipped and played here at beaches like the Curlies, Hilltop and Shiva Valley in South Anjuna. Walls and faces splayed with hypnotic colors and art, the environment in itself will put you in a trance of sorts. Owing to the fact that this part of Goa isn't locally inhabited by residents, cops don't bother frequenting this zone. Don't be too surprised if you come across foreign tourists smoking up weird plants against a backdrop of fluorescent dipped art that displays aliens, mushrooms, other plant forms, Indian deities, abstract forms, spaceships, etc. While you should experience the serenity of this place during your tour to Goa, a tiny advice would be to keep off any kind of smoking and trouble. Sundays at Hilltop mark the day for trance and rave parties, cleverly scheduled on the particular day to evade the dormant Police clique away spending time with psychedellic mushrooms for sale in uk their families. Here, the crowds start pouring in as early as 3 in the afternoon and the party comes alive as the sun goes down the Goan waters in the distant horizon. And the party goes on withstanding migrations to other shores within Goa from time to time. Whether you're a 60 year old, a family, a group of friends or a couple for that matter, the happy go lucky Goan vibe will touch your heart in some way or the other. Rave on your tour to Goa, but pray don't dive in too deep and stay alert! Cheers!
